Dr. Eileen J. Councill
Deputy Headmaster – Curriculum and Instruction

Dr. Councill joined CISQD in September 2016. She grew up in the United States and earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Dr. Councill then completed two Masters’ Degrees in Instructional Technology and Educational Leadership and Supervision. Following 12 years as a Mathematics teacher in the United States, Europe, and Africa, Dr. Councill transitioned into Administration and completed her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy at Fordham University. For the past 12 years, Dr. Councill has served as Principal, Deputy Head of School, and Head of School in American, IB and British Schools. In her spare time, Dr. Councill loves to travel, read, hike, run, take photographs, and SCUBA dive. She is a certified Rescue Scuba Diver.

Mr. Stewart Kerr
Head of Upper School and Business Studies Teacher

Mr. Kerr joined CISQD in summer 2013. He comes from the UK and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business from the Liverpool Business School, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Sunderland. He worked in management in the UK for six years and has taught Business Studies and English internationally for a total of eleven years. In his spare time, Stewart enjoys learning languages, playing football, hiking, and spending time with his family.

Ms. Jelena Vugdelija
Head Lower School, MUN Coordinator, and Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Vugdelija comes from Croatia where she lived there until 2012. She graduated from University of Split where she obtained a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. During her university life, she was a teaching assistant for a few years prior to teaching Mathematics, Physics and ICT in high school. She then obtained a PGCE at University of Nottingham. In 2012, she was awarded a one year scholarship to teach in the UK after which she transitioned to the UAE. She joined CISQD in August 2014. She teaches GCSE, A-level and Further Mathematics at CISQD. Jelena loves cycling.

Ms. Nina Wang
Deputy Head of Upper School and Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Wang joined CISQD in August 2009. She grew up in a very beautiful city called Weifang, which is world-famous for kites. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Shandong University in Information and Calculation Science (Mathematics), and her Master’s degree in Communication and Signal Science from The Ocean University of China. She owns both Chinese teaching certificate (Senior) and iPGCE teaching certificate from University of Nottingham. She is one of the first teachers at CISQD. She has been teaching A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She is gentile and optimistic and likes to provide help to students and other teachers. Nina loves music and playing basketball during her spare time.

Mr. David Jonker
Deputy Head of Upper School and English Teacher

Mr. Jonker joined CISQD in August 2016. He grew up in South Africa and earned his Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree in English and Psychology. David Jonker then completed his Honors Degree in Psychology and went on to complete his Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Following two years as an English teacher in South Africa, David Jonker moved to China where he has taught for three years. During his time as an English teacher he has been involved in various roles, such as: Chess coordinator, subject leader and the School Magazine Editor. In his spare time, David Jonker enjoys traveling, reading, going to the gym, playing football, and writing poetry and short stories. He has aims of becoming a published writer.

Ms. Faye Cai
Deputy Head of Upper School and Chemistry Teacher

Ms. Cai joined CISQD in August 2013. She grew up locally in Qingdao and earned her Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing. Ms. Cai then completed two master’s degrees in Chemistry at Michigan Technological University and in Education at the University of San Francisco. After about five years of teaching in an American high school and as a teaching assistant at university level in the United States, Ms. Cai decided to return home to Qingdao, to share her experiences and serve students intending to follow similar paths. In her spare time, Ms. Cai loves to travel.

Ms. Helen Dong
Deputy Head of Lower School and English Teacher

Ms. Dong joined CISQD in February 2013. She graduated from Shandong University, majoring in English Linguistics. She has earned a Cambridge Celta Certificate and has also attended IELTS teacher training held by the British Council. She has taught IELTS, IG English and other English courses for over 12 years. She has also worked in international schools for 10 years with rich experience in student management. In her spare time, she enjoys reading books, watching movies and fitness.

Ms. Liv Zhang
Deputy Head of Upper School and Economics Teacher

Ms. Zhang joined CISQD in January 2012. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Qufu Normal University. In 2002, she earned her Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at East China Normal University. She worked as a Mathematics teacher in Qufu Normal University for 6 years and then moved to Qingdao in 2008. Ms. Zhang taught Further Mathematics in a vocational college for 3 years before joining CISQD. Lily loves to travel and take pictures.

Ms. Debra Sun
Deputy Head of Lower School and Business Teacher

Ms. Sun joined CISQD in August 2015. She grew up in Weifang, Shandong province. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business English in China and her Master’s degree in Marketing at University of Leicester, UK. She has rich work experience in international business, brand development and team leadership. She hopes to share her academic expertise and professional business experience with her students.

Mr. Jonathan Ng
Head of Department and English Teacher

Mr. Ng joined CISQD in August 2016. He grew up in the United Kingdom and completed a master’s degree in International Conflict Studies at Kings College London. After completing training to be an English Language Teacher, he taught English to students from all the world at one of London’s oldest English language schools before moving to China to continue his teaching career. He has been living and working in China for almost eight years now and is currently determined to gain fluency in Mandarin Chinese. On the weekends, Jonathan likes to play football, climb mountains, and sample local cuisine.

Ms. Yang Zhao
Head of Department and Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Zhao joined CISQD August 2010. She grew up in Qingdao and has earned her Bachelor of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics/Mathematics Education and Chinese Teaching Qualification. She was invited to the UK and taught in public and independent schools for 8 years. During that time, she obtained a Master of International Management and Policy in Education and a British Teaching Qualification. Ms. Yang Zhao loves outdoor activities such as rock climbing, skiing and also hand crafts.

Ms. Janet Bronson
Head of Physics Department and Physics Teacher

Ms. Bronson joined CISQD in August of 2014. She grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, one of the 5 great lakes, in the United States. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in Pre-Medicine (Biology and Chemistry), her teaching certificate the following year, and her master’s degree in Physical Science from Michigan State University. She taught Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering for 25 years in the United States in a public high school of 1800 students in Jackson, Michigan. She is excited to be here with her husband in Qingdao and to share her wealth of knowledge with both staff and students. In her spare time, she enjoys taking walks in the mountains and bringing joy to others by cooking special American treats.

Dr. Olivia Yu
Head of the Chemistry Department and Chemistry Teacher

Dr. Yu joined CISQD in July of 2011. She grew up in Qingdao. She earned her Doctoral Degree from Ocean University of China in Environmental Science. She has taught iGCSE and A-level Chemistry for 6 years. In her spare time, Olivia likes to swim.

Mr. Andries S. Botha
Head of Department and Business Studies Teacher

Mr. Botha joined CISQD in March 2015. He grew up in South Africa where he completed his degrees in Education and post degree in Economics. His teaching experience is diverse in that he has taught many different subjects (Economics, Business Studies, Mathematics and Computer Studies) at many different academic levels (IGCSE, AS, A2, 2nd year university). He has taught in South Africa, England, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and China. Mr. Botha loves his family, music, motorcycling, golf and sport, in general.

Mr. Dermot Brennan
Athletic Director, Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator, Head of House, and Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Brennan joined CISQD in August 2017. He grew up in Donegal, in the Northwest of Ireland. He completed his BSc in Physical Education and Biology at Dublin City University. He spent three years teaching a mixture of Physical Education and General Science in Ireland, where he was also very involved in the extra-curricular life of the school. He spent one year teaching Science at an international school in Doha, Qatar, before moving to Qingdao. Mr. Brennan’s hobbies include running, football, listening to music, and travelling.

Ms. Deborah Beech
Art Department Coordinator and Art Teacher

Ms.Beech joined CISQD in October 2016. Growing up in England, UK she studied BA Film Production, MA Screen Arts, and currently (on hold) PhD Women and Film. She has worked predominantly in England as an Artist in Residence and taught Art, Media, Film Production, Drama and English Literature. After moving to China in 2012, Deborah has taught Art to all age levels and is developing a book of photographs depicting the range of Art she has produced. Deborah’s love of cats, painting and filmmaking is how she spends her spare time.

Ms. Yi Sun
Drama, Chinese, Confucius Studies CoordinatorTeacher

Ms. Sun joined CISQD in October of 2014. She grew up locally in Qingdao and moved to Southampton, UK at the age of 17. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Greenwich. Her portfolio project of her degree year was nominated for the best design of the year and was short-listed for the top ten in the RIBA (The Royal Institute of British Architects) Award. Before coming to CISQD, she was working in practice architecture and also as a teaching assistant in Architecture School in UK. Yi moved back to Qingdao to look after her family. In her spare time, Ms. Sun enjoys painting, do hand crafting works and cooking for her big family.

Ms. Clare Gong

Ms. Clare obtained her Master's degree in Global Operating Management in University of Manchester. She has been working for CISQD since January 2010 as human resource co-operator and exam officer. She has rich experience in human resource management and administration. She is also familiar and proficient dealing with international exam operations and regulations.

Mr. Henry Zhang
PowerSchool System Administrator

Mr. Henry Zhang joined CISQD in November 2014. He earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Staffordshire University, UK. Over the past 10 years in IT Management and System Administration in the UK and in China, Mr. Zhang has achieved the following professional certificates: MCSE, CCNA, PMP. Henry enjoys hiking and swimming in his spare time.

Ms. Ronel Botha
General Studies Coordinator, General Studies and English Teacher, Female Boarding Coordinator

Ms. Botha joined CISQD in August 2016. She grew up in Durban, South Africa. Mrs. Botha completed her teaching degree in 1979, majoring in PE and Geography. She started teaching in 1980 as a PE teacher at the school from which she graduated. Her teaching experience is quite diverse, as she has taught at various levels from Primary School to grade 12. Sport has always been her passion, as she excelled in Softball, Field Hockey and various other sports. She earned her National Colors in Softball, representing the country of South Africa, and was a provincial Field Hockey player. She has taught in schools in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and currently in China. Her hobbies are sewing, baking and researching newsworthy events. Mrs. Botha’s passion is playing golf (when there is time) and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Ms. Victoria Zheng
Deputy Head of English Department and English Teacher

Ms. Zheng joined CISQD in June of 2010. She grew up in Qingdao, a beautiful coastal city in Shandong Province, China. She earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Qingdao University of Science and Technology. Victoria taught English at the university level for 2 years. So far, Ms. Zheng has taught IGCSE English, TOEFL and SAT at CISQD and is eager to help students improve their English. In her spare time, Ms. Victoria Zheng enjoys reading, swimming and playing table tennis with her friends and family.

Ms. Peggy Xu
Deputy Head of Mathematics Department and Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Xu joined CISQD in November 2011. She grew up in Binzhou, Shandong Province. She earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Mathematics from Qingdao University. She received her teaching certificate (High School Mathematics, China) in July 2011 and iPGCE certificate in July 2017. She has been teaching A-Level Mathematics for 6 years at CISQD. She enjoys teaching and sharing her professional knowledge with students and colleagues. In her spare time, she enjoys doing handcrafts such as making bracelets, scarves.

Dr. Jason Wang
Acting Head of Physics Department Physics Teacher

Mr. Wang joined CISQD in August 2018. He grew up in Anhui, China and earned his Bachelor degree in Physics from Jilin University in 1999. He gained his Ph.D in physics from Michigan Technological University, USA, in 2007. He continued to work as a Postdoc for 3 years. He then worked on a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering for 3 years from 2010 to 2013. In 2013, he went back to China to join Ocean University of China and worked as an instructor. Mr. Wang loved teaching physics and considers physics to be one of the subjects that provides the best training for logic and reasoning. In his spare time, he likes to travel, enjoy the nature, read books, and play basketball.

Ms. Susan Xu
Deputy Head of Department and Economics Teacher

Ms. Xu joined CISQD in August 2009, since the foundation of the school. She was born in Northeastern China, and moved to Shandong Province at the age of 9. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Jilin University in English and Master’s degree from Northeast Normal University in Applied Linguistics with a supplementary degree in Economics. She also completed a iPGCE at the University of Nottingham. Susan has taught IGCSE Business Studies for 2 years and A-Level Economics for 5 years. She is good at sharing Economics and Business knowledge through examples that young learners are familiar with, and making complicated principles easily understandable. 70% of Economics students taught by Ms. Xu are credited with either A* or A by the CIE Examination Board. In her spare time, Susan enjoys travelling, swimming and hiking with friends.

Mr. Joe Sun
Computer Science Teacher

Mr. Joe joined CISQD in April 2018. He grew up in London and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computing at Imperial College London, and his Master’s degree in Control Systems at University of Sheffield. Mr. Joe has always enjoyed teaching and went on to study for a TEFL certificate. Mr. Joe currently teaches Computer Science and Physics at CISQD. Mr. Joe likes thinking outside the box and is looking forward to combine his strong subject knowledge, creativity, and passion to inspire his students to achieve their full potential. Mr. Joe has a super relaxed personality outside work. He enjoys hanging out with friends, travelling, hiking, playing the piano, and playing basketball.

Mr. Frank Gaughan
English Teacher

Mr. Gaughan joined CISQD in April 2014. He was born in Oxford, England, and graduated with a B.Sc. in Linguistics from The University of East Anglia in the UK. He also has a Higher National Certificate in Chemistry. After 12 years of working in a research laboratory for a food company, Mr. Gaughan moved to China to apply his background in Linguistics to teach English as a Foreign Language. This included one year in Hangzhou, and since has taught here in Qingdao. He spends his free time walking the coast of Qingdao, and exploring the older areas to the west of the city. Mr. Gaughan is an avid watcher of movies.

Ms. Hema Sachania
English Teacher

Ms. Sachania joined CISQD in August 2017. She grew up in Zambia, Africa and moved to the U.K. when she was 10 years old. Miss Sachania completed her BA degree in English at De Montfort University as well as PGCE in Secondary English at University of Leicester a few years later. This is Miss Sachania’s first overseas job, although she had previously been teaching for two years in the U.K. In her spare time, Miss Sachania enjoys reading, writing poems, travelling and watching and reviewing films.

Ms. Cindy Terhoven
English Teacher

September 2017 was a significant milestone in Ms. Terhoven’s life as she joined CISQD. Cindy grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009 from the University of the Western Cape. Miss Terhoven decided to pursue her passion for teaching by completing her PGCE in 2014 and graduating from the University of the Western Cape. Miss Terhoven’s first teaching post was as a substitute teacher at Kuils River Technical High School and thereafter she began a permanent teaching post at Rusthof Secondary School in Cape Town, South Africa. Her hobbies include spiritual dancing, watching movies and making handmade cards.

Ms. Catherine Ji
English Teacher

Ms. Ji joined CISQD in July 2016. She was born in Qingdao and completed her bachelor’s degree in Graphics Design in Jiangnan University. Catherine earned her Master’s of Education and TESOL in 2015 at the University of Monash, Australia. Ms. Ji served as an English teacher in Australia for half a year. Catherine loves reading, photography and swimming. She’s also keen on designing, and used to model for her own bespoke designing.

Ms. Ping Ping Liu
English Teacher

Ms. Liu joined CISQD in January of 2012. She grew up in Qingdao, China. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from Northeastern University while obtaining teaching certificate in the following year. She taught English for 11 years in colleges and high schools in China. She likes Chinese calligraphy and cooking.

Ms. Bailey Zhang
English Teacher

Ms. Zhang joined CISQD in February 2017. She lived in three different cities in Shandong before earning her bachelor’s degree in Management from Shandong University of Finance and Economics. With a passion and love for language teaching and learning, she completed a master of TESOL at Durham University, UK and graduated with merit. She earned a 4 (full mark) in her TKT exam provided by Cambridge ESOL. In the past four years, she has been teaching both academic English courses and preparation courses for the IELTS, TOEFL and ACT exams in Beijing and Shanghai before returning to Qingdao. Also, Bailey has worked on a number of development projects for test preparation materials. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, badminton and photography.

Ms. May Wei
English Teacher

Ms. Wei joined CISQD in August 2015. She grew up in China and earned her bachelor’s degree in English. May then finished her Master’s degree in MTCSOL. After one year as an English teacher in China, May went to South Korea and taught there for two years. She then spent another year of teaching in public school in the United States. May enjoys doing outdoor activities so when she’s not working on lesson plans, you can find her hiking, swimming or photographing.

Mrs. Shelley Chaplin
English Teacher

Mrs. Chaplin joined CISQD in August 2018. Mrs Chaplin was born in South Africa. She graduated from University of Pretoria with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, having majored in English, History and Pedagogics. Mrs. Chaplin loves to go on Safaris with her husband, read novels, cook and she likes to walk on the beach. Mrs. Chaplin has been teaching in schools in South Africa for twenty years and is very excited to teach in China and visit as many places of interest in China as possible.

Ms. Charlotte Morris
English Teacher

Ms. Charlotte Morris joined CISQD in August, 2017. She grew up in Whakatane, New Zealand. In 2011, she gained her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English and Linguistics, at the University of Canterbury. In the year following, Charlotte attained her Diploma in Teaching which allowed her to gain a position teaching English and Spanish. One of her most memorable experiences as a teacher is having had the opportunity to travel to Spain with her students. She believes total immersion is the best way to learn a language. In her spare time, Ms. Morris likes to travel, read, exercise and play music.

Ms. Susie Sun
English Teacher

Ms. Sun joined CISQD in August 2011. She grew up in a small town in Northwest Shandong Province. Her first bachelor’s degree was in Food Science and Engineering. She then earned her second bachelor’s degree in English, in China University of Mining and Technology and started teaching English in a private college in Guangdong Province, south of China. Susie achieved her National Teaching Certificate (Teaching College Students) in 2006. In 2016, she completed her iPGCE course through the University of Sunderland. She has been teaching English for over ten years and loves being around students on campus. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking in the mountains with her friends and cooking.

Mr. Thomas Walker
English Teacher

Mr. Walker joined CISQD in August 2018. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English Literature. He enjoys public speaking, reading a good book and finding new T.V series to watch. After graduating Mr. Walker travelled around Eastern Europe and parts of the Middle East. He completed a National Diploma of Journalism before pursuing a teaching career. Mr. Walker earned a Post Graduate Diploma of Secondary Teaching in 2012 and taught English for 6 years in New Zealand. He grew up in Rotorua, New Zealand where he enjoys to Mountain bike and surf as often as he can.

Ms. Helen Ma
English Teacher

Ms. Ma joined CISQD in August 2017. She grew up in Northeast China and studied English education at Beijing Foreign Studies University through distance learning. She earned her Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at University of Nottingham, UK. She once taught English at a college in Qingdao and adult ESL in Nottingham. Ms. Helen Ma enjoys reading and traveling in her spare time.

Ms. Maryse Pierce
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Pierce joined CISQD in August 2016. She grew up in South Africa and received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2010. She then worked as a teacher in Xiangfan, Hubei for one year. In 2012, she returned home to South Africa to complete her PGCE and work as a teacher. In 2014, she moved to Qingdao where she taught in Chengyang, Qingdao for two years. Her interests include travelling, hiking, going to the gym and watching series.

Ms. Kelly Lan
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Lan joined CISQD in October 2016. She grew up in Qingdao. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Qingdao University in Financial Management, and her Master’s degree in Financial Risk Management from University of Glasgow. Kelly taught Chinese in a UK language school. In her spare time, she enjoys reading books.

Ms. Andrea Cary
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Cary joined CISQD in August 2018. She grew up in the western United States and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Weber State University in Mathematics Teaching with a minor in English as a Second Language. After graduating, she taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, IGCSE Mathematics, and English as a Second Language in the Philippines. During her time teaching, she also coached girls touch rugby and cross country and was co-advisor for National Honor Society. In her spare time Ms. Cary enjoys hiking, running, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Mr. George Zhao
Mathematics Teacher

Mr. Zhao joined CISQD in August 2016. He grew up in Harbin, China and earned his Bachelor of Chemistry Engineering at Harbin Normal University. He has taught Mathematics at both Harbin Number 3 Middle School and now at CISQD. In his spare time, George loves to travel, read, hike, run, swim, and play basketball.

Ms. Jodie Qiao
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Qiao joined CISQD in July 2016. She grew up in North China. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from Changchun Normal University and completed her teacher certification in Mathematics in both Chinese and bilingual education. She has taught Mathematics for more than 2 years in an international school. She likes being with students and also loves to travel and taking a walk.

Ms. Lily Zhang
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Lily Zhang graduated from East China Normal University (Shanghai) and obtained her Master’s degree in mathematics education in 2002. She worked as a Mathematics teacher in Qufu Normal University for 5 years and moved to Qingdao with her family. She then worked in a college in Qingdao and taught Further Mathematics for another 3 years. In 2012, she joined CISQD and worked in the Mathematics department. She has been teaching Mathematics for nearly 15 years. She obtained her iPGCE in Mathematics in 2018. She loves her tutees very much and has been a form tutor for 6 years. She enjoys the time she spends with all students and faculty members in CISQD.

Ms. Lucy Lv
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Lv joined CISQD in December 2011. She earned a Bachelor’s of Management in Xi’an Finance and Economics College. Lucy then completed her Master’s of Management in Qingdao University. She has been teaching Mathematics for many years. She teaches all A-level Mathematics modules.

Ms. Naomi Feng
Mathematics Teacher

Ms. Feng joined CISQD in September 2014. She grew up in Qingdao and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Charleston, USA in Science Education. In the same year after her graduation, she received her teaching certificate in Science. Naomi completed all required field experiences all the way from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Back to China, she continued with her education and taught Mathematics at CISQD. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and travelling with her family.

Mr. Sam Gray
Mathematics Teacher

Mr. Sam came to CISQD from the UK in 2018. He grew up in London before moving to the west coast near Bristol. He earned his Bsc. in Mathematical Sciences from the Open University, before achieving his PGCE at Bristol University. He is currently finishing his Msc in Mathematics and is an Edexcel Examiner for C4. This is his first teaching post abroad after 14 years of teaching. Sam enjoys the outdoor life including hiking, swimming and cycling.

Mr. Freedom Thabethe
Mathematics Teacher

Mr. Thabethe joined CISQD in August 2106. He grew up in Durban, South Africa and obtained his National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a Mechanical Technician in a manufacturing company for 6 years and decided to change careers to teaching. In 2015, he earned his Post Graduate Certificate in Education, specializing in the teaching of Mathematics and Technology, grades 8–12. Mr. Thabethe has been teaching Mathematics and Science since 2011. He is also registered as qualified teacher with the South African Council for Educators (SACE). Mrs. Carla Costa
Physics Teacher

Mrs. Carla joined CISQD in August 2018 to teach Physics. She was born in Portugal where she finished her Teaching Physics and Chemistry degree and started her teaching career. Soon after, Mrs. Carla moved to Spain where she continued her teaching career and obtained several language certificates. Six years later she moved to Taiwan to teach science and took part in several roles including being a homeroom teacher. She kept developing her academic skills by finishing a Masters’ Degree in School Management with the University of Barcelona and getting her TEFL certification. Three years later she moved to Dandong in LiaoNing province where she worked for three years and became the Junior High Head of Department. During her time in Dandong she didn’t stop studying and obtained two IB certificates in Math and Physics. Mrs. Carla loves the Chinese culture, she also enjoys running, playing with her cute dog, traveling with her husband and hanging out with friends.

Ms. Maria Ma
Teaching Assistant for Mathematics

Ms. Ma joined CISQD in August 2018. She grew up in Linyi, a city in Shandong Province. She received her teaching certificate (high school Mathematics, China) in June 2015 and earned her Master’s Degree in Fundamental Mathematics from Ocean University of China. She likes teaching and sharing her knowledge with her students. Maria loves yoga and jogging and she is also an animal lover who volunteers to help stray dogs in her free time.

Mr. Kevin Wang
Physics Teacher

Mr. Wang joined CISQD in August 2015. He grew up in a village in North China. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Zhengzhou University in Bioengineering (Biology and Biochemistry Engineering) and a Master’s degree from Ocean University of China in Fishery (Biology and Agriculture). He has been teaching Chemistry and Physics since 2011 and he likes sharing his knowledge with his peers and students. Apart from work, he enjoys sports, such as basketball.

Ms. Maybelle Shang

Ms. Shang joined CISQD in April 2015. She grew up in LaiWu- a heavy industrial city in Shandong Province. She earned her Master’s degree in Environmental Science & Engineering from Ocean University of China. She has been teaching Chemistry & Physics. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, singing and writing.

Ms Lily Li
Physics Teacher

Ms.Lily joined CISQD in April 2018.She grew up in northeast China and obtained her Bachelor of science in Changchun Normal University. Her main area of interest include Science Education, iGCSE Physics, International A/AS Level Physics and AP Physics. She obtained a teaching certificate in Physics in 2018. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and sports.

Ms. Mandy Pan
Physics Teacher

Ms. Pan joined CISQD in October 2013. She grew up in WeiFang, which is known as the “city of kites” in Shandong Province. She earned her Master’s degree from Beijing Institute of Technology University in Physics and thereafter, a teaching certificate. In her spare time, Mandy likes to swim to relieve her fatigue after work.

Ms. Jocelyn Li

Ms. Li joined CISQD in October 2016. She came from Yantai and finished her undergraduate education in Wuhan, majoring in Aquaculture. After earning her bachelor’s degree in 2015, Jocelyn became a Physics teacher at New Oriental school. In her spare time, Ms. Li loves to swim, travel and read. She exercises every day to keep herself fit and active.

Ms. Chloe Chen

Ms. Chen joined CISQD in October 2016. She attended Imperial College London and earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2012. She was born and grew up in Qingdao and is a distinguished alumna of CISQD. Reading, hiking, travelling and listening to music are the most enjoyable things for Chloe to do in her leisure time.

Dr. Ivy Yu
Chemistry Teacher and Chemistry Laboratory Technician

Dr. Yu joined CISQD in August 2016. She grew up in Anhui province. Ivy earned her doctoral degree from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In her post-graduate studies, she majored in Electrochemistry. Outside of school, Dr. Yu enjoys taking walks and chatting with friends.

Ms. Una Pan
Chemistry Laboratory Technician

Ms. Pan joined CISQD in February 2016. She grew up in Heilongjiang, China and earned a degree in Environmental Technology and Management. Following 10 years as a technician in many industrial laboratories in China, Una decided to join CISQD. In her spare time, Ms. Una loves to travel, read, hike and take photographs.

Mr. Lu joined CISQD in August 2016. He majored in Bachelor’s degree is Polymer chemistry. He earned his Master’s degree in Tianjin Normal University in Chemistry. He taught chemistry in Tianjin traditional Chinese medical university for 5 years and earned a senior certificate for teaching in Universities. He is excited to be here to share his wealth of knowledge with both teachers and students. In his spare time, he enjoys basketball, football and fitness.

Ms. Bina Zhou

Ms. Zhou joined CISQD in November 2015. She grew up in Shandong Province. Bina earned her Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing Normal University in Chemistry Education and then completed her master’s degree in Applied Chemistry from Guangxi University. Before she joined CISQD, she had worked as an Engineer for two years. In her spare time, she loves paper folding and enjoys travelling with her family.

Ms. Xie joined CISQD in July 2015. She grew up in China and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Food Science in Qingdao. Ms. Rachel joined CISQD after her graduation. During her 2 years teaching at CISQD, she has tried her best to improve, grow and became a certified teacher. Rachel loves to watch movies, play tennis, read and hike.

Ms. Cao joined CISQD in March of 2014. She grew up in Qingdao. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Qingdao Agricultural University in Biology and Chemistry. In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys travelling and practicing Yoga.

Mr. James Thomson
Chemistry Teacher

James joined CISQD in August 2018. He grew up in the UK and earned his BSc Degree in Chemistry. James then spent the next 12 years working in the pharmaceutical industry, as an industrial chemist and latterly in production planning. Following 5 years in Spain, working in diver training, James returned to the UK to complete his Professional Graduate Diploma in Education before working in UK state schools for 7 years. After 5 years working in Kuwait as a teacher of Chemistry and subject leader of Science, James moved to Qingdao. James enjoys traveling, scuba diving and hill walking as well as watching football and rugby.

Ms. Cindy Nilluka
Chemistry Teacher

Ms. Cindy G. Nilluka grew up in Texas, USA. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at West Texas A & M. Cindy then obtained her Masters’ degree from Chapman University. Ms. Nilluka retired from teaching in the USA after 25 years and begun to reach out to overseas opportunities.
After four years spent teaching in the GCC, Cindy has decided to transition to CIEG in 2018.

Ms. Evelyn Yu
Chemistry technician

Ms.Yu joined CISQD in August 2018. She was born in Linyi City, Shandong Province.
She earned her Master’s degree at Capital Normal University in 2014.
She loves teaching and has been engaged in education related work. Now she works as a chemistry technician in CISQD and she hopes to help students learn chemistry through practical experiments. Ms. Yu enjoys climbing mountains, going out and listening to music in her spare time.

Ms. Sophia Sun
Biology Teacher and Technician

Ms. Sun joined CISQD in November 2015. She grew up in Yantai, China and earned her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Hygiene Inspection. She then completed her master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Following one year working in Shandong Academy of Sciences, Ms. Sun decided to join CISQD. In her spare time, Ms. Sophia loves to travel, read and hike.

Ms. Barbara Zhang

Ms. Zhang joined CISQD in April 2013, and has been teaching at CISQD since then. She grew up in Yantai, a coastal city in Shandong Province. She earned her Master’s degree from Ocean University of China in Cryobiology. In her spare time, Barbara enjoys drawing, reading and listening to music.

Ms. Alison Gauthier
Biology Teacher

Alison Gauthier graduated from Elmira College with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2010. After college graduation, Alison entered the Peace Corps as a "Community Health and Education Agent" in Cameroon, West Africa. It was in Cameroon that Alison was inspired to become an educator. Upon returning to the states, Alison taught middle school math in Connecticut for one year before returning to her home state of Vermont. In Vermont, Alison completed the Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP) to gain endorsement in Secondary Science. Alison taught high school Science in Vermont for three years before moving to Qingdao to teach at CISQD. Alison earned her Master's Degree in Education (curriculum concentration) from Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. When Alison isn't at CISQD, she is ZUMBA-ing, running, traveling, and learning Mandarin.

Ms. Francesca Bissman
Biology Teacher

Ms. Bissman joined CISQD in August of 2018. Ms. Bissman grew up in the northwest region of the United States and earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas. After her studies Ms. Bissman spent four years in academic research with a neuropharmacology laboratory at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Ms. Bissman then went on to earn her teaching certificate in Science Education and has taught Science for three years with a focus on Life Sciences. During her teaching career Ms. Bissman was awarded a fellowship with the New Science Teacher Academy from The National Science Teachers Association in the United States. During her fellowship Ms. Bissman focused on physical models of biological concepts and literacy in science. Ms. Bissman currently teaches A-Level Biology for CISQD. In her spare time Ms. Bissman enjoys running, hiking, and sculpting.

Mr. Gregory Venter
Accounting and Business Studies Teacher

Mr. Venter joined CISQD in August 2017, after teaching Accounting and Business Studies in South Africa for 4 years. He grew up in South Africa and earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Management Accounting from the North West University (Potchefstroom Campus). He then started teaching at a multi-cultural high school, after which he completed his PGCE in Accounting and Business Studies (FET and further education) from the North West University (Vanderbjil Campus). Even at a young age, he has experience in sport management, which he obtained from serving on a vast number of district and provincial sport committees. In his spare time, Mr. Venter likes to travel, explore, drive, spend time with his wife and dogs and enjoy nature.

Ms. Susan Jiang

Ms. Jiang joined CISQD in November 2015. She grew up in Qingdao and graduated from Macquarie University, Australia, majoring in Professional Accounting. Susan has several years of working experience as an accountant in an accounting firm and is currently an IGCSE and A-Level Accounting teacher for both EDEXCEL and CIE Exam Center. She is a quick learner and great at logical thinking.

Ms. Sucie Sui
Accounting Teacher

Ms. Sui joined CISQD in August 2016. She grew up in Qingdao. She studied overseas to earn her Bachelor’s degree at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. She has taught A-level Accounting in Qingdao since she graduation. Susie has taught every grade of A-level Accounting for both Edxcel and CIE Exam Centre. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling and cooking.

Ms. Wang joined CISQD in October 2015. She grew up in Qingdao, China. Helena earned her Bachelor of Social Science in Business and Finance Management in the UK and then completed her Master’s degree in Management at University of Bristol, UK. Helena loves to play piano, travel, read and practice yoga.

Mr. Grant Gunther
Business Education Teacher

Mr. Gunther joined CISQD in August 2018. He grew up in the Green Mountains of Vermont in the United States and earned his Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree in History and his Associates Degree in Business Management. Before becoming a teacher, Grant was a photographer/graphic designer, worked in outdoor sports and recreation, and was martial arts instructor for many years. During his time as a history teacher he has been involved in various roles, such as: Department Head, Alternative Path Teacher, and Magic Club coordinator. In his spare time, Grant enjoys scuba diving, traveling, reading, cooking, playing the guitar, and painting.

Mr. James Yu
Accounting Teacher

Mr. Yu joined CISQD in October 2012. He was born in Qingdao and after high school, he moved overseas for University studies. James earned his Bachelor of Business (Accounting Major) at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. He then worked in an Accounting firm and logistic company in Auckland for three years. He also worked as an Auditor in ShineWing Certified Public Accountants (Qingdao Branch) when he returned to China. Mr. Yu has completed ten out of fourteen papers on the ACCA Exam (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). In his spare time, James likes reading, watching movies, travelling and listening to music.

Ms. Crystal Zhang
Economics Teacher

Ms. Zhang joined CISQD in August 2015. She grew up in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce in Finance in Canada and her Master of Finance from University of Melbourne. She worked at HSBC as a management trainee for one year and then joined CISQD to teach Economics. In her spare time, she loves to swim, travel and take photographs, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Ms. Liv Zhang
Economics Teacher

Ms. Zhang joined CISQD in August 2014. She grew up in Qingdao, China. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of Amsterdam and her Master’s degree in Finance (minor in Econometrics) from Tinbergen Institute of University of Amsterdam. She worked as a teaching assistant in Free University in Amsterdam for 3 years. Liv is excited to be back in her hometown and to share her knowledge and passion of Economics with both staff and students. In her spare time, Ms. Zhang enjoys reading, gardening, origami making. She is also a cat lover.

Mr. Brown Councill
General Studies Teacher

Brown Councill joined CISQD in September 2016. Mr. Councill was born in North Carolina and after attending an all boys’ boarding school for high school, he moved on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After graduating from university, Brown worked for the Councill family furniture business, starting at the bottom and successfully working his way to Vice President of Upholstery and Seating. After many years in his family business, Mr. Councill started his own company and then pursued a career in sales before transitioning to the field of education, and completing his teaching certification in Humanities from the University of West Florida. Brown previously worked in an international school in the UAE and loves to cook, hike and scuba dive, and has been a boys' basketball coach for students of all ages.

Ms. Jan Fan
Physical Education Teacher

Ms. Fan joined CISQD in October 2015. She grew up in Qingdao and recived her bachelor’s degree from Qingdao University, majoring in Basketball Training and Tourism Management. Before she joined CISQD, she taught PE at a primary school and was involved in coaching at a Sports Club in Qingdao. She is currently teaching PE and she enjoys every moment of it. Jan is the school’s three-point shooting machine in the student vs. faculty basketball games! In her leisure time, Jan enjoys playing different sports and spending time with her family and friends.

Ms. Grace Zhang
Physical Education Teacher

Ms. Zhang joined the CISQD family in May 2013. She grew up in the beautiful city of Tai’an, where the famous Mount Tai lies. She achieved her Master’s degree in Sports Education and Training while studying at East China Jiao Tong University. Grace taught swimming at a local club and at Ocean University. She played a lead role in volleyball training in both high school and Ocean University. She is also a national first-class tennis referee and a certified volleyball referee. Ms. Zhang was involved with publishing provincial academic journals and participated in many provincial research projects such as the research of development strategy of water sports in Jiang xi Province and studying the influence of ball games in promoting the psychological health of college students. In her spare time, Ms. Zhang likes to go to the cinema with her husband, take her daughters to play, and travel with her family.

Ms. Hillery Zhang

Ms. Zhang joined CISQD in February 2017. She graduated from University with a degree in foreign language. Ms. Zhang has a High School Chinese Teaching Qualification Certificate, with certification in Teaching as a Foreign Language. Ms. Hillery has three years of working experience at International schools. She has taught Chinese Literature, Confucius Studies and A-level Chinese. In her spare time, Ms. Zhang enjoys reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends.

Ms. Lynn Wang
Music Teacher

Ms. Wang joined CISQD in November 2018. She graduated from Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences, Lithuania, majoring in Music Education. During her Master degree studies, she also exchanged to Avellino Conservatory of Music, Italy, and studying music performance (Piano). Meanwhile, she participated in several European conferences in music education.

Chinese teacher

Ms. Li joined CISQD in April 2014. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from HuaiBei Normal University in Chinese Language Education. After graduating, she taught Chinese as First Language in Public school in Xuzhou for five years. She then taught Chinese as Second Language in Pioneer valley school in USA for two years. In her spare time Ms. Li enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Emma Wang
University Counselor and English Teacher

Ms. Wang joined CISQD in May 2011. She grew up in the city of Tai’an, which is famous for Mountain Tai. Before working at CISQD, she studied at University of Essex, UK, for her Master’s degree in International Management. Between the year 2006 to 2008, she worked for the British Olympic Sailing Team GBR as an official translator during the Olympic Games. In 2014, she completed and obtained the international teaching certificate, iPGCE. She is passionate about inspiring the students as well as establishing solid team work with her colleagues. She enjoys playing piano, swimming and drama performance in her spare time.

Ms. Julia Zhu

Ms. Julia joined CISQD in June 2013. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Design Management from University of Southampton, and Bachelor’s Degree in Business Planner from Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Fudan University. In 2016, she earned the Career Consultant Certificate from MOHRSS, P.R. China. She has completed all the compulsory units on counsellor course and gained Certificate of University Counsellor from British Council in 2017. Ms. Julia enjoys travelling, music and internet safari.
